Our Mission

The Utopia Memorial Library is a non-profit organization chartered by the State of Texas.  It is totally run by a volunteer staff consisting of a library director and eight volunteers who donate their time and efforts to keep the library open five days a week.  The mission of the Utopia Memorial Library is to provide patrons, both children and adults, with opportunities for education, training, reference and literary entertainment through books, videos, books on tape, periodicals and other media.  This includes access to the World Wide Web through the Internet  Materials not in our collection can be ordered from El Progreso Memorial Library in Uvalde, Sabinal Public Library in Sabinal, Texas or through Interlibrary Loan.  Interlibrary Loan gives the library access to the collections of libraries all over the United States.

Your Library Card

• Obtain an application form at the circulation desk and fill out
• Give the form to any staff member at the desk
• Children under the age of 17 may get a library card with the signature of parent or guardian
• There is no fee for obtaining a library card for any resident of the State of Texas.  If the card is lost or damaged, there is a one-time free replacement.  Subsequent cards will be replaced at a cost of $.50.
• Your card will be honored at all three member libraries of the Uvalde County Library System, Utopia Memorial Library in Utopia, Texas, El Progreso in Uvalde, Texas and the Sabinal Public Library in Sabinal, Texas
• Loan Periods
• Books and books on tape - three weeks
• Videos (VHS or DVD) - 3 days

Extended Use Fees

• Books - $.10 per day
• Books on tape - $.10 per day
• Videos - $1.00 per day

Lost or damaged  items will be the price of the item plus a non-refundable $2.00 processing fee.  Patrons with fines of $5.00 or more may not borrow items until their account is clear.
